A disused Lincoln pub could be demolished and turned into student accommodation if planning proposals are approved.

The former Lord Tennyson pub, which has been closed for a few years, and land surrounding it on Rasen Lane, will be demolished and replaced by flats for Bishop Grosseteste University students.

The two replacement buildings will be three stories high, containing nine student apartments with 54 bedrooms.

There will be nine parking spaces added to the building, but these would be for guests and drop-offs only, not for students.

The building would be managed by the university and the applicant.

The application is a resubmission of a proposal that was rejected by the Planning Committee in February, due to the provision of parking spaces for students. The Committee felt this would cause chaos in the area.

There are presently also a number of objections from neighbouring houses and some contention over the fact the Victorian pub would be demolished.

A report by the Development Service Manager of the City Council however feels that the applicant has followed local policies and the feedback from the previous submission.

The report recommends the development is approved by the committee with conditions, such as providing travel and construction management plans, archaeology, sample panels and making sure student cars do not access the area.
